Welcome to my website. I am the Virginia L. Roberts professor of sociology at Indiana University. From 2018 to 2022, I will co-edit Contexts, the official magazine of the American Sociological Association. I am the author of four books, numerous academic articles, and I've written for the popular press. I study social movements, health, education and the art world.
